Gosforth Civic Theatre
Gosforth Civic Theatre (GCT) is an independent arts venue, cafe bar, events space and community hub in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne.
It is home to, and run by, Liberdade Community Development Trust, a disability arts organisation. You can find out more about GCT on their website.
Wheelchair Access:
The venue is on one level and is wheelchair accessible.
We have two seating areas:
- Stepped rake seating for people who can use steps
- Step free access where movable seating is provided.
Please choose the seating area which would best support your access requirements when booking your tickets.
Chill-out space
There is a chill-out area separate from the cinema in the studio that can be used to relax during the event.
Toilets
There is a set of gendered toilets, one with all cubicles and one with cubicles and urinals. You are welcome to choose the toilet which you feel most comfortable using.
There is one large accessible toilet. This is not a Changing Places toilet and does not have a hoist.
Changing Places:
The nearest CP toilet is a few minutes walk from GCT at the Gosforth Pool and Leisure Centre. This will be open during Daydream Cinema Day. You can find more information here or by contacting Gosforth Leisure Centre. There is also some information on AccessAble. Please note that Gosforth Leisure Centre is a separate organisation from GCT and Daydream Cinema. It is advised to contact the Leisure Centre directly for information about the Changing Places availability for the day of the event.
Hearing Loop
There is a hearing loop system at reception.
Parking: The venue has limited parking. There is a multistorey car park nearby at Regent Centre Metro Station.
Public transport
The venue has transport links close by from Regent Centre Metro Station and Bus station. You can find out more details about GCT’s location, transport links and parking here
- Food in the cinema: Daydream Cinema asks that you do NOT take any hot food (due to smell) or crisps (because they can make a lot of noise) into the cinema to help reduce sensory overload in the cinema space. You can take hot and cold drinks into the cinema. We ask you to support GCT by buying food and drinks in the venue if you wish to take snacks into the cinema.
- GCT has a cafe which will be open from 8.30am – 9pm on the event day. The cafe serves a range of drinks, snacks and hot food. You can find out more about the cafe here.
Please note, due to the sensory sensitivies of our guests we do not recommend this screening for young children, in particular under the age of 2 years old.
Below are some photos of the seating spaces. The step-free access space is empty in the photos, but would have moveable seating in place for the Daydream Cinema Day screenings.
